Welcome Note from Kimberly Mitchell, PTA President

Hello Prairie Children Families!

Welcome back to another year of Prairie Plain talk newsletters. It is with great enthusiasm that I start the school year as your PTA President, and am thrilled to be working with an amazing group of parents on our PTA board.

For parents new to the preschool, our PTA supports the school by:

providing singers, exercise/dance instructors and storytellers for special events for our Prairie Children Preschoolers
providing help for the Vision/Hearing Screenings and School Picture Day
organizing a Fall Family Portrait Event
organizing fun Staff Appreciation Activities
supporting our community with two school-wide community drives: food drive and used book drive
bringing families and students together with our 3 yearly socials. A student favorite, the Costume Party is coming up October24th; a sentimental favorite among parents and children is the Sweetheart Dance February 20th, and May 22nd the Special Events Committee is planning an exciting Spring Social
Much, much more!

In order to pay for these activities, we just had our primary Fall Fundraiser, and we are also planning some fun days/nights out at restaurants where a portion of all sales will go to our PTA, and some shop and share days at some of our local grocery stores. We can’t hire speakers or put together social events for our preschool families without your dollars and/or willingness to volunteer. PTA Membership has an excellent benefits package and includes a rewarding experience working with other parents to promote the objectives of the Illinois PTA in common with the purposes of the National PTA:

to promote the welfare of children and youth in home, school, community and place of worship

to raise the standards of home life
to secure adequate laws for the care and protection of children and youth
to bring into closer relation the home and the school, that parents and teachers may cooperate intelligently in the education of the children and youth
to develop between educators and the general public such united efforts as will secure for all children and youth the highest advantages in physical, mental, social and spiritual education

I would like to thank the other members on the Executive Board, the Committee Chairs and Prairie Children Preschool Principal, LuAnn Shields, who have all worked so hard over the summer to get things started. You have really made my job so easy thus far, and I look forward to working with you this year.
