Dear District 204 Community,

I have several important updates for you as we continue to prepare for our transition to hybrid beginning the week of January 18. Students who chose in-person learning will return to the classroom based on the schedule below:

Week of January 18:
• Early childhood
• Kindergarten through second grade
​—• All pilot elementary classrooms
• Self-contained classrooms
• STEPS program
• Wheatland Academy
• Middle and high school students needing intervention
• Special education students who were coming to school for in-person instruction or related services

Week of January 25:
• Grades 3 through 5
• Grade 6
• High School

Week of February 1:
• Grades 7 and 8

Self-Certification Before Coming to School: Please note, parents will need to begin using ParentVUE to self-certify that students coming on campus are free of COVID-like symptoms. Starting tomorrow, each school day you login to ParentVUE, you will see a screen asking you to self-certify that your child is symptom free. This video explains the simple process of how to complete this step. This must be done each day prior to your child arriving at school. If this step is not completed and your child is at school, a health services staff member will call you to discuss your child's health status. We ask that you please monitor your child's health closely and keep them home if they aren't feeling well. You can report your child's absence using ParentVUE after completing the self-certification process.

COVID Testing: We are recommending that the district offer optional weekly COVID testing for students in some grade levels and all staff. We think this is an important step in reducing potential COVID transmission in our schools as we bring more people into our buildings. I'll have more information to share after the January 25 Board of Education meeting.

Metrics: We have been using metrics from the DuPage County Health Department to help guide our decisions for when to open or pause school. As we transition to hybrid, we are now including data from Northwestern University based on zip codes in our district. The DuPage County data has been helpful in providing a broad look at community transmission. The additional data from Northwestern University allows a greater understanding of how COVID is impacting our immediate community.

With the addition of data from Northwestern University, we have modified our metrics that would trigger a pause of in-person learning and a return to remote learning to include the following:

• When the DuPage Health Department has designated the county as being in Substantial Community Transmission for three consecutive weeks, and
• Weekly County Case Counts per 100,000 have shown a continued rise for three consecutive weeks, and
• Northwestern University data reflects a 7-day rolling positivity rate that is equal to or higher than 12 percent or the county's average.

Additionally, as we make our decision, we will examine the following IPSD data to help in the process:

• Outbreaks that cannot be contained or mitigated by the District's COVID-19 Contact Tracing Team.
• The inability of the District's COVID-19 Contact Tracing Team to respond to a significant surge in the number of cases in the district.
• Adequate available supply of PPE.
• Adequate staff available to provide instruction and operate schools.

We are excited to welcome our students who selected in-person learning back to our classrooms in the coming weeks. With safety protocols in place and the addition of weekly optional COVID testing, we are committed to opening our classrooms in a safe manner for both students and staff.
